25 September - MOGS Sylvester's

The air is still buzzing with extreme excitement and team enthusiasm….. and why wouldn't it be….. With MOGS Sylvester's taking their first and last win of the season (this date goes down in History!) on Wednesday September 5th.

With a full team (and loyal coach Oscar) the girls started the night fumbling over who was to play and who wanted to sit off (with more sitting off than actually required).

The first quarter saw some centre court domination, fast paced runners and sharp ball skills. The first shot of the night sunk in true Walker style, out from the circle line…. A casual lob right into the centre of the net, proving to the opposition we were here to win.

Second quarter, with the shooters warmed up, it was time for the defence to stand up and…well defend. Even with a few unfair calls, a push here and a shove there, the girls never lost their temper (well nearly never). The opponents liked to tell us (in a not so friendly manner) throughout the game how much younger we were and how much faster we could be run…….. so that's exactly what we did; everyone stepped up a notch and we started to produce the goods!

Half time was something to be forgotten, OTT not a happy chappy but an inspirational speech (or singling out a few players) sent us back onto the court with our heads screwed on tightly and some players shaking in their MOGS boots…. But all focused on bringing home a win.

Knott started the third with some unbelievable and even magical turn over's, managing to get the Sylvester's two quick points. Midge, who apparently likes to be the third umpire, starting giving a little bit of lip and the old accidental 'stand on the shoe lace trick' to show the opponents that we were here for business. Carlson showing some great displays in the attack settled into her new position nicely, helping the shooters to gain a few needed goals.

But the game was not yet ours as we were still a few points down leading into the final quarter. Smelling the hint of a victory this final time was crucial. A few nifty passes here, a few consisted goals there, the girls getting the tempo together and stretch getting the lobs, and a defending side who would give the royal air force a run for their money the girls could feel (and hear) that there were only a few points in it. We are not sure what happened next but there was great speed, turnovers, shots and rebounds flying left right and centre from both sides of the court. The final whistle sounded and no one had expected what was about to come………… A one point victory to MOGS Sylvester's!!!! What a great was to end the season - well done girls you really deserved it… an absolute Stella performance…..

Until next season…,

GAME 4 - 25 July - MOGS Sylvester's V Westside

With the added help of our newly nominated 'coach' Oscar (thanks Amy), the Sylvester's took the court revved up for big things. The first quarter could be best described as 'finding our feet' with some interesting displays in all thirds of the court. It would help next week if we remember to start the match with a goal keeper (thanks Nikki!!!)

Second quarter we started to warm up, and our opponents 'Westside' saw what they were up against. By this stage we had accepted the fact the Umpiring was (yet again) not on our side but we played on like the real troopers that we are. After some helpful tips from Coach Oscar at half-time the team took to the court. With some graceful passes in the centre court, domination in the defence and accuracy in the goals we started to make a steady come-back, coming back within 2 points of the lead. Our passing though was somewhat interesting as Nikki, “under pressure”, decided to throw it to her imaginary friend 'Charlie' outside the court. But a victory was evident within the team and the girls switched on.

In the final term there seemed to be more rhythm on the court than a hot African night. Sheila did some outstanding zigzags around the goal square and the goals kept coming. Adding to this was Emily 'Michael Jordan' Woods shot from a mile out, nothing better to boost the ego than a swish!

Our centre court too quick, our defence proved too strong with interceptions and rebounds coming from Korman, Amy and Nikki left, right and centre and the opponents struggled to score and the Sylvester's managed to win the quarter but unfortunately we went down in our best game thus far – but as they say “things can only get better….”

We have the speed the will power and the Cheek to achieve greatness! So well done girls for a champion effort…. We are improving out of sight. Looking forward to next week's game once again at 8.20pm.

Votes:

3 – Oscar for his sensational coaching (loved the half time rev up!)

2 – Amy for playing a great game (and bringing us a coach)

1 – Woods again (that shot in the last quarter was a display of amazing skill – or a total fluke)

MOGS in BOOTs - Section 5 Premiers!!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!

A HUGE congratulations must go to the fabulous MOGs in Boots for their premiership win last Thursday!

MOGs in Boots knew they were in for a tough game as they were coming into the Grand Final as the underdogs against Entity Solutions, who boasted an undefeated track record for the season. Nevertheless MOGs in Boots didn't let their nerves get in the way of demonstrating pure talent, starting out strong and gaining a 3 goal lead by quarter time. But by three quarter time it was anyone's game with MOGs in Boots up by just one goal... It was touch and go and the intensity of the game caused booming cheers from the crowd - the atmosphere inside the Prahran Stadium was electric! MOGs in Boots fought extremely hard and confirmed their supremacy, winning by 4 goals and taking out the premiership! A very well-deserved win!

To win a Grand Final in our inaugural season is a fantastic achievement, the MOGs in Boots girls have sure done us proud! We look forward to many more MOGs victories in the seasons to come...

BUS TRIP - Saturday 2 June 2007 - WOMEN IN UNIFORM

Saturday 2nd June was the inaugural MOGs Bus Tour. Dressed as Women In Uniform we headed to some of Melbourne’s premier night spots! I am pleased to report that costumes were sensational and behaviour was disgraceful.

I think our antics even gave the boys a run for their money……..see the Official Report for details.
