:: Melbourne Grammar School 1st XVIII Report - By Lurch.

Geelong Grammar School won its first APS football premiership in 1902. Geelong Grammar School won its last APS football premiership in 1902 – with good reason: it is the near-annual cellar-dweller of the APS. No APS school fears the baby blue football jumper of GGS. To lose to GGS is a tragedy for any APS football team. Such an appalling tragedy occurred to the MGS 1st XVIII last Saturday at Corio. GGS has been playing above itself this year, and it was a tough and even game for the first three quarters, despite GGS kicking six goals without response in the second quarter, to be up by 32 points at halftime. MGS fought back in the second half, but was too late to reel in the lead. |
Charles Shaw, a second year 1st XVIII Year 11 MGS boy, is hard to miss on the field with his flaming red hair. Even if you can’t see this, you can’t miss his performances on the field. This week he kicked six goals in a one-man effort reminiscent of Tom Hawkins’ one-man effort to save the game against BGS in 2005. Unfortunately, the difference was that Charles’ effort alone could not save Grammar.
